Pelican Ropes Selection Of Sailing Ropes & Boat Ropes
We offer specialty ropes designed for sailing and boating applications, ranging from soft Spun Polyester Boat Ropes to heavy-duty Double Braid Nylon ropes. Our selection of ropes includes lines that are high strength and resistant to abrasion. Many of these ropes also feature water resistance.
Pelican Rope was founded over 40 years ago and marine rigging was one of the first industries that we worked closely with. For these reasons, sailboat ropes, yacht ropes, and other boat ropes will always be products that we take particular pride in.
If you would like to know more about these kinds of ropes, grab a life vest and let’s get sailin’ on!
What Is A Halyard & What Halyards Are Available?
A halyard is a line that is used in sailing or boating for various functions, including being used as a flagpole rope, a yacht rope, or to raise sails. While Dyneema Line is popular in these kinds of applications, we prefer to use a more traditional Polyester Line. Polyester Halyards are sometimes referred to as Dacron because of a popular brand that makes polyester, in the same way, that one may refer to all tissue as “Kleenex.” Polyester materials are designed to give very low stretch or elongation.
Generally, the most important feature that you will be looking for in a halyard is high resistance to extreme abrasion. Aside from looking for a solid core, adding a coating can allow for additional protection from wear. Our halyards are available with an optional urethane coat to meet these demands and add protection against UV Rays.
If you are looking for a Halyard, we recommend our VLS (Very Low Stretch) Double Braid Polyester Line with an added urethane coating.
Some Features Of The VLS Double Braided Polyester Rope:
- Smooth
- Durable
- Low Stretch
- High Strength
- Chafe Resistance
- Optional Urethane Coating
- Ideal As A Halyard, Rigging Line, Or Control Line
- Tensile Strength From 1,080-12,150 Based On Diameter
What Are Some Uses For Pure Nylon Rope?
Rope made of pure nylon is used for many applications where shock absorption is of a high priority as it is best known for its stretchability. Both Double Braided Nylon Ropes and 3 Strand Nylon Ropes are great for docking lines because they have high stretch and fairly high strength when wet. Because of these features, nylon is popular as a Sailboat Rope.
Otherwise, Double Braided Nylon Rope is a good “all-purpose” type of rope. It is easily spliceable and has some great everyday applications. It is also durable and significantly more resilient than traditional anchor lines.
Common Uses For Double Braided Nylon Rope:
- Dock Lines
- Mooring Lines
- Recovery Ropes
- Offshore Applications
- Available At Military Grade
Common Uses For 3 Strand Nylon Rope:
- Dock Lines
- Anchor Ropes
- Securing Boats And Cargo
Common Uses For 9 Strand & 12 Nylon Rope:
- Dock Lines
- General Tie Downs
Polyester Ropes At Pelican Rope
Polyester Rope has a similar strength to Nylon Rope, but it has less stretch/elasticity. This rope does not float but it is known for its resistance to abrasion and is considered ideal for rigging and many industrial applications. Because Polyester Boat Rope does not lose its strength when it is wet, it is resistant to most weather conditions.
