Dyneema®

What is Dyneema®?

Dyneema fiber is the brand name of the world’s strongest fiber- a lightweight material made with low elongation at breaking point, incredibly high energy absorption that is chemically inert and highly flexible. Pelican Rope offers several types of rope which utilize Dyneema’s unique fibers, all designed for high stakes situations. Keep reading to learn more.

What Kind of Rope is Made with Dyneema Rope?

The D-12® is our specialty Dyneema cord. This Dyneema winch rope is made purely with Dyneema’s high-tech brand-name fibers. Since Dyneema’s fibers are the strongest in the world, this is ideal for applications where you need to replace steel cables. The D-12 is a 12 strand performance rope which is available by the mile as needed. In addition to its unmatched strength, the D-12 is noted for its ability to float on water, its UV resistant coating, and its superior flex fatigue.

Here Are Some Unique Features of the D-12:

  • Added UV Resistance
  • Superior Flex Fatigue
  • Able to Float on Water
  • Incredible Lightweight Material
  • Made from the Strongest Fiber on the Planet
  • Constructed Entirely with Dyneema Brand Fibers
  • Ideal for Winch Lines, Cable Pulling, Tow Lines, Rigging Lines, Stringing Lines, Marine Lines, and Lifting Lines

In addition to the D-12, Pelican Rope sells the multipurpose Krypton D Braided rope and several lines of rescue rope which combine Dyneema’s unparalleled strength with other materials such as polyester and polypropylene.

Should I Choose a Polypropylene or a Polyester Cover?

Pelican Rope offers several ropes with Dyneema cores and covers made either of polypropylene or polyester. Our water rescue ropes are made with polypropylene as it floats and has almost no water retention. For applications like mountain rescue where water is less of a concern, polyester is used for its strength and elasticity. In any of these instances, the Dyneema core means that you will be working with the world’s strongest fiber.

Some Benefits of Polypropylene:

  • Excellent Grip
  • Extremely Buoyant
  • Almost No Water Retention

Some Benefits of Polyester:

  • Excellent Grip
  • Incredible Elasticity
  • A Strong Material for Rope Covers

What is the Difference Between Dyneema Rope and Spectra Rope?

Honeywell’s Spectra is a fiber that is very similar to Dyneema in its molecular structure. Both fibers are incredibly strong and are highly resistant to fatigue. While Spectra has the highest resistance to fatigue, Dyneema is a stronger material and is more resistant to wear in most heavy use areas. Dyneema also has more stretch/elasticity than Spectra’s fibers.

Benefits of Dyneema:

  • More Elasticity/Stretch Than Spectra
  • Higher Resistance to Wear In Heavy Use Areas

Benefits of Spectra:

  • Higher Resistance to Fatigue than Dyneema

My son is a climber for a national company. He has used the rope for about a month and it has exceeded his expectations.
PELICAN ROPE  1/2" - Rig Master™ 3 Strand Composite Rope

Quality as good as any other rope I've used. I have climbed trees for over 20 years. This rope works well for climbing, rigging, or pulling trees. I prefer a braided nylon for climbing (knot will allow faster descent then the twisted), however this rope surprised me how well it allowed descent. For the price, I will be ordering more..
